Team Pfronten – with fun to the finish

It is Michael Horn who was part of the Trans Germany debut in 2007. In addition, he also competed in the 2008 Transalp. According to his stage race experience he did a pretty intense preparation for the mountain bike highlight beginning of June. Numerous ski tours are the base for a stamina building process and on the bike festival at Lake Garda, he checked his skills at a marathon participation.

Michael Dodl’s last months were similar to those of Horn. Dodl raced several contests in spring in order to get into gear and is now ready for the Trans Germany. True to the motto “Stepping on the gas and enjoy the race” he is not aiming for a special result but wants to give it his best shot.

Klaus Widmann, in contrary, lowers his sights when it comes down to his ambition. Although he has pedalled several races including a 24h lasting one he is mainly into making it “in a healthy way and with as less stresses and pains as possible to the finish in Bregenz.”

Trans Germany lives down old injury

How important health is for a racer experienced Axel Bertle last year in a painful way when he broke his collar bone thus missing the 2009 Transalp in the very last second.

No wonder that he was psyched for the Trans Germany when he got informed that Germany’s big mountain bike stage race will lead through Pfronten. No matter what, he wanted to be part of it and thus also run in a trainings camp on Mallorca in order to be fit enough to “enjoy the race and have one beer or two each night.”

The youngest team member is going for it

Well, at least one team mate will miss the beers if we can give credit to his motto “My Mama is riding harder!” However, Cornelius Hipp is not overambitious as he has underlined his strength at several marathon races this year already. With the courage to take a risk he will push the pedal to the metal on the first to stages and then find out if he can keep hold to his speed until the very end.

In contrary to the “nestling” of the team, the oldest Pfronten resident has a different approach. “I want to make it to Bregenz, no matter how!” explains Sven Manhard who also is a co-name giver for the team. The owner of a sport shop received the Trans Germany entry as a gift at his 50th birthday and hopes that his 24h racing and marathon experience will make him able to conquer the almost 300 kilometres of distance.

The stage town of Pfronten will cross fingers for him and his five co-riders!
